New Year’s Eve Gala
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The idea of Brothers of the Desert began at a New Year's Eve progressive dinner celebration in 2017, with a small group of Black gay men who collectively wanted to make a difference in our community. As we built our organization, we wanted to keep New Year's Eve as a tradition for us to celebrate our growth, build connection with out communities, our brothers, and all throughout the country while building an opportunity to invest in our group's future. Who knew that what began as a small progressive dinner party would grow not just in numbers, it would become one of our signature events, embraced by the community and organizations throughout the country.
Following the theme of the first dinner, each New Year's Eve Dinner & Fundraiser (based around a four course wine pairing gourmet meal) has its own theme and location. With this event our fundraising ability has increased each year, along with our ability to reach more people and support more programs and services.
Chefs Michael Taylor and Andre Carthen (pictured) have successfully co-chaired the planning committee since the event's inception and oversee the culinary planning of the annual four course meal.
